I've Started a Podcast

<How I Messed Up Getting my Teaching License                                                                            Bringing My Experiences to Life for Students>

Our digital age has allowed us to connect with others like us in a profoundly impactful way. While some will always complain things are not the way they used to be, the ability to connect as we are able to now has, for me, generated a sense of the small-town feel goods.

 

One relationship contributing to this positive outlook has been the one developed with Mr. Ron Grosinger. Ron's story was posted on our blog and our relationship (which started from a few Instagram likes) has been a powerfully reflective and powerfully collaborative.

Kyle Thompson - Carpentry Instructor (Mon, 08 Apr 2024)
Kyle Thompson has 14 years of experience teaching every grade from kindergarten to adult education, with 12 of those years dedicated to building construction technology & carpentry. Kyle spent several years working in material handling services for residential/commercial construction, tools and materials sales, mobile electrical install services, and industrial submersible pump systems. He is an OSHA 500 authorized trainer for the construction industry who places a high priority on safety. With a master’s degree in applied behavior analysis & autism, a bachelor’s in psychology, Kyle has also worked as a professional in the field of behavior analysis which directly correlates to task analysis and keeping workers safe. With a crew of over 150+ secondary students and adults, Kyle operated a 100% incident and accident-free workplace for 11 years as the sole supervisor. About "Hawk Shop"

 

The Hawk Shop is the maker-space for Republic-Michigamme students and is available for use to 6th-12th grade students under the course title Industrial Arts. The shop operates using the original woodworking equipment to the building and is continuing progress to upgrade the shop to develop trade skill sets for today’s workforce.

The Hawk Shop exposes students to the diverse fields within skilled trade, and capitalizes on students strengths and interests to prepare students for entering a skilled trade position, and/or to utilize maker skills as a healthy creative outlet.
